On Sunday 22nd July 2012, watched by a UK audience of nearly 4 million viewers, Bradley Wiggins crossed the finish line of the world's greatest race wearing the famous 'maillot jaune' to become the first British winner of Le Tour de France. The 32-year-old punched his arms in the air and clapped as he crossed the line on Paris's Champs-Elysees after fellow Briton Mark Cavendish capped off a stunning Tour for British outfit Team Sky by winning the final stage of the race for the fourth consecutive year.
'Wiggo's feat ensures he will be remembered as one of Britain's greatest ever sportsmen. The final stage was the 13th consecutiveday that he had worn the race leader's yellow jersey in the 99th edition of the iconic race. He completed the Tour three minutesand 21 seconds ahead of Team Sky colleague Chris Froome, thesecond Briton on the podium in the history of the race.
