One Summer
  • Description

From the pen of acclaimed Liverpool writer Willy Russell (Educating Rita, Shirley Valentine) comes an engaging drama about class and happiness. Billy (David Morrissey - Basic Instinct II, The Deal, Blackpool) and Icky (Spencer Leigh - Strapless, The Garden) are two deprived, dead-end street-corner kids trying to rediscover an all-to-brief spell of contentment in Wales. One Summer was first transmitted on Channel 4 in 1983 and chronicles how two hard-bitten youngsters are affected by the people, their surroundings and the attitudes they encounter.

    Disc One

    Episode One

Two fifteen-year-old Liverpool truants rediscover school and pin their hopes on a trip to the school summer camp. Their hopes are dashed, but fate, broken probation and a small bingo win soon have Billy and Icky boarding a train and heading for unknown territory.

Their journey illustrates to Billy and Icky the difference between Liverpool and Wales, if only in the geographical sense. They find however, that even in the expanse of the Welsh countryside, the territory cannot be theirs and they are still not wanted.
