Iranian painter-turned-filmmaker Mania Akbari explores the divide between body and soul against the wholly contemporary background of electronic communication, where love letters are composed on cell phones and close encounters seem far removed for a once-pretty girl who has been disfigured. Tautly directed and deftly rhythmical, this enthralling film is a showcase for an outstanding ensemble cast. Through a series of episodes, set in locations ranging from a skin-treatment clinic to a fortune-teller's salon to a prison visiting room, a narrative of love, loss and renewal unfolds, centering on a beautiful woman who has been disfigured in an accident. The third feature film directed by Mania Akbari, the star of Abbas Kiarostami's magnificent Ten.
