Ryder Cup 2014 Official Film (40th)
23,49 €
September 23–28, 2014, PGA Centenary course, Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire, Scotland.
The 40th Ryder Cup proved to be another epic encounter between America’s finest – led by Tom Watson – and their European counterparts, superbly guided by Paul McGinley.
There could be no finer setting for the biennial contest than the rolling Perthshire countryside in Scotland, the ‘Home of Golf’.
America held the upper hand in the fourballs, winning each morning session by 2½ points to 1½. But Europe took complete control in the afternoon foursomes, winning a record-breaking seven out of eight points.
As a result, the home side had established a commanding 10-6 lead heading into the Sunday singles, but the United States got off to a lightning fast start and surged ahead in six matches.
However, an invincible Rory McIlroy put Europe’s first point on the board with an emphatic 5&4 defeat of American Rickie Fowler, and the World Number One was promptly followed by his fellow Northern Irishman McDowell, who won five out of six holes from the tenth to complete a remarkable 2&1 victory over Jordan Spieth.
A buoyant European side then began to build an unassailable lead, and with just one point required for victory, the honour fell to rookie Jamie Donaldson. Already four up with four holes to play, the Welshman stopped his approach to the 15th within inches of the cup to beat Keegan Bradley and seal a third successive Ryder Cup victory for Europe.
Meticulous preparation by captain McGinley, some sensational performances by his players – notably Justin Rose, who secured four points out of a possible five – and superb support from the vocal galleries, ensured that Samuel Ryder’s famous trophy remained firmly in European hands.
This is the story of The 2014 Ryder Cup…savour and enjoy.
