The Adventure Game - Series 1-4
35,49 €
Simply Media are delighted to announce the release of the highly sought after BBC cult sci-fi quiz show The Adventure Game Series 1-4, on DVD for the first time 12th June 2017.
Often considered the main influence behind The Crystal Maze, this part-scripted galactic game show ran for nearly six years from 1980-1986. Hugely popular with both children and adults alike the show was subsequently moved from its Saturday morning spot to early evening weekdays, and was ranked at number 39 on Channel 4's 100 Greatest Kid's TV Shows list.
This wonderfully bizarre game show was created by BBC children's television veteran Patrick Dowling (Take Hart / Vision On), inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and 70s computer games. Simply Media have rescued all of the 20 remaining episodes from the BBC's archives and have made them available on DVD for the first time in this 6-disc set.
Each episode of The Adventure Game features two celebrity contestants and one member of the public who are transported through time and space to the fictional planet of Arg where they face a challenge. In order to return back to Earth, they are tasked with reclaiming a crystal stolen from the celebrities' spaceship by the shape-shifting dragon-like Argonds.
Like The Crystal Maze, which started just four years after The Adventure Game ended, contestants had to complete a series of logic puzzles and mental tasks, all under the watchful eye of the show's eccentric Argond hosts. And a final terrifying task had to be completed before they could return home, to avoid being "evaporated" by The Vortex.
Moira Stuart, in her pre-newsroom purple jumpsuit, stars as a mischievous alien-dragon host who challenges the contestants. A year later Stuart would start at BBC News where she would become one of the most famous and notable BBC newsreaders.
Blue Peter's Lesley Judd also featured in the series as "The Mole", pretending to be a regular contestant while actually trying to sabotage the contestants' mission.
The Adventure Game features 1980s celebrities galore, including Keith Chegwin, Noel Edmonds, Fern Britton, Sue Cook, Elizabeth Estensen, Paul Darrow, John Craven, Bonnie Langford, Johnny Ball, James Burke and Graeme Garden, to name only a few. Even R2-D2's controller Kenny Baker (Star Wars) came on to play a pot plant!
Whether it's your first visit to the mind-boggling planet Arg, or you're a frequent visitor, you’ll soon be crying out "Doogy Rev" when your favourite team wins in this DVD collection of brain-busting brilliance!
