King George VI & Elizabeth - A Royal Love Story
The story of King George VI and his Queen, Elizabeth, is one of goodness growing into greatness. In a short reign, just 14 years they created an ideal of the British Royal Family. This programme examines the legacy they built, a legacy that lives on in the way that their eldest daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, rules today. The man who would become King was born Prince Albert, the second son of King George V. The prince was shy and crippled by a terrible stammer. His older brother Edward, heir to the throne, was by comparison, charming, witty and adored by the Press and public. The Prince married well, to the daughter of a Scottish aristocrat, and had two daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth. This young family could so easily have become a sideline of Royal history but events were about to overtake them. The story of Edwards’s abdication from the throne is a well-known one. But it left Prince Albert in a difficult position. Crippled with shyness, the idea of being so much in the public eye terrified Albert, but he took his place on the throne anyway. Happy pictures of the new Royal Family countered the bad news of World War II. It can be said of some people that they had their time, a moment in history where they excelled and made a difference. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth are good examples of this. They were a good King and Queen but perhaps more importantly, they were the right King and Queen for their time. Includes; additional bonus material of VE Day and a selection of speeches taken from different periods of the Kings reign.
Elizabeth II - From Princess to Queen
This DVD looks at the true story behind the early years of England's greatest ever and longest ruling Monarch, from her birth to her eventual crowning as Queen. Episode 1 Who is Elizabeth Windsor? And how did she become the woman who would be Queen of England at the start of a new millennium? In this episode we look at the effect her uncle s abdication had on her family and on her future and how this experience would teach her the importance of duty and sacrifice. Elizabeth Windsor is unique, like no other woman of her nation. We are all a product of our upbringing and Elizabeth is no different but her upbringing was like that of no other child. In Part two we examine the importance of family and history in shaping this future Queen. This DVD Includes rare archive black & white and colour footage including the Queen's Coronation, Elizabeth's days of carefree childhood, as well as extraordinary footage from the life of the Queen.
Elizabeth II - Duty & Sacrifice
This DVD looks at the true story behind the reign of one of England's greatest ever and longest ruling Monarchs in the nation’s history. The Queens life has spanned eight decades of a constantly evolving country and enormous change. Episode One In the first of this two part series we aim to re-examine the Queen's early years and look at how duty and sacrifice have shaped the Monarch we see today. The 1960's brought anti-establishment ideas and a new Labour government committed to reform. From then to the present day Elizabeth has faced challenges to her reign from all sides. The once deferential press declared open season on the House Of Windsor and suddenly a very private family was thrust into the often brutal media spotlight. The quest to become a Monarch has been Elizabeth's biggest challenge to date. This DVD features rare archive footage including the Queen's coronation, the Silver Jubilee, Princess Anne and Princess Margaret's weddings, the wedding of Prince Charles to Diana, as well as extraordinary footage from the life of the Queen.
