John Tobin (Wayne), a good-guy in the wild, unruly days of the early West, is in hot pursuit of the renegade bandit Zanti who killed his parents. The bandit tries to put the blame for his crimes on Tobin and the local sheriff, Jack Rockwell, arrests him for the shooting. It's down to Tobin to prove his innocence and expose the real bandit.

US Marshall John Travers (Wayne) and his Indian companion Yak are after the mysterious Shadow and his gang who are harassing the citizens of a small western town. When the town's Sheriff is killed, Travers takes his place and organises a group of armed men to rid the town of the nasty archfiend and his smelly thugs.
