Terri Fletcher (Hilary Duff) is a young girl from a small town who has big dreams of becoming a singer.

Following the death of her brother in a car accident, she is torn between staying with her family, or spending the summer at a performing arts school in Los Angeles. Choosing to follow her dream, she experiences a whole new world and way of life outside the sheltered existence she's always known.
