Resurrection Men: Gallery owner, Edward Marber, is found murdered on Edinburgh’s Calton Hill. Rebus has been dispatched to an occupational behaviour course and so Siobhan runs the investigation in his absence. The First Stone: The Moderator elect of the Church of Scotland is found murdered, naked in a car, beside a woman passenger in a similar state. The woman’s husband seems the most likely suspect, but when a rival candidate for the Moderator position is also found murdered, the plot thickens. Secrets and lies, hidden for years, start to unravel with fatal consequences.
The Naming Of The Dead: Edinburgh is in the midst of the build up to the World Trade Summit. With demonstrations in abundance, a body is found in the grounds of the summit venue. Investigations identify the murder victim, but Rebus is warned off the case in a clash with the SO12 security unit’s Commander, Steelforth. With tensions running high, Rebus is intent on discovering the truth, but ultimately he is forced to acknowledge it’s the last thing even he wants to hear.
Knots And Crosses: The trial of two drug dealing brothers who are accused of murder collapses, and Rebus takes the rap as an investigation is launched into his handling of the case. Recriminations begin as the victim’s father, a career criminal, threatens to carry out his own justice outside of the law. As violence threatens to spiral out of control, Rebus has to solve new murders whilst being persecuted over the old one.
